I was in sales for a blueprinting company and saw a bartending school on one of my client calls. Took the 2 week course and 17 years later, still going strong. Of course I don't bartend anymore but love the business side of it, as well as the events. During that time I have also added 3 more companies to the event industry. Dave Forman

I was destined to be an Engineer in the TV broadcast business. I started working in Event AV while still in school and one thing led to another. The event business was in my blood, I was good at it, and the TV broadcast idea had served it's purpose.

I got started with events in college, volunteering for the concerts/cultural events programs within our student government. In truth, student programming was much more my major than that BA in Business! I spent three years interning for a municipal parks & cultural programs department during college, which was a huge benefit as the job had some aspects of life as a concert & event promoter, and many parallels to the non-profit world in terms of accountability to one's audience.

I made the decision to go into arts administration, did a lot of work with fundraisers in my first couple of jobs, then wound up doing fundraising events with a non-profit organization that produced an annual community festival. Wore a lot of hats, which is how I wound up getting my first few years of experience in sponsorship, and was bitten by the festival bug in a big way. Now I'm delighted to do sponsorship full-time for an established non-profit producer of large-scale community events in Seattle!

I actually worked in the Special Event/conference department during the summer at College (got to stay at the school in the dorms); I worked with sports groups, Elderhostel, and other groups that came on campus. I enjoyed giving tours (for both these groups and admissions) and seeing behind the scenes. From there I went to summer conferencing and special events, then spent most of of my time in catering. I thorougly enjoy being just in the event planning side now, but am grateful for my catering experience as well - that very much has helped me moving forward! The cool thing is we get PAID to plan parties! Talk about a dream job!

Over 10 years ago started planning social and private events for family and friends. Discovered I had a knack for it. Really enjoyed the planning and attention to details aspect. It took me a while to step out on faith and start a business. "Events, etc by Kim" is not quite 2 years old.
